Meet your guide at a designated location within the palace complex. The guide will provide a brief overview of the palace’s history and significance.
Begin the tour by descending into the palace’s substructures, a maze-like network of underground chambers and tunnels. Here, you’ll learn about the palace’s construction and use as a defensive fortress.
Ascend from the substructures to the palace’s main courtyard, the Peristyle. This open space is surrounded by impressive columns and arches, and was once the center of Diocletian’s private apartments.
Explore the palace’s entrance hall, known as the Vestibule. This space features intricate carvings and mosaics, and leads to the emperor’s mausoleum, which was later converted into a cathedral.
Enter the Cathedral of St. Domnius, a magnificent example of Romanesque architecture. Here, you’ll see the impressive altar and baptistery, as well as the famous bell tower, Zvonik Svetog Duje.
Next, visit the Temple of Jupiter, an ancient Roman shrine that was later converted into a baptistery. Admire the temple’s impressive columns and marble floors, and learn about its rich history.
Return to the Peristyle for a closer look at its intricate architecture and design. You’ll have the opportunity to take some photos and soak in the palace’s unique atmosphere.
The tour will end with a Q&A session where you can ask your guide any remaining questions. After the tour, you’ll have plenty of time to continue exploring the palace and its surroundings, or visit the many cafes, shops, and museums located within the palace walls at your own pace.
